News, Good and Bad

Good News – Today is our second anniversary! Go us!

Bad News – The company is reorganizing and my job is moving to Houston.

So what is the plan?

I had flowers delivered and we’ll have a nice dinner out somewhere tonight.

As for the other, well, I have to find a new job, don’t I? I’m going to look in expanding circles, seeing if I can slip into another slot in the company, so we don’t have to move, then something still here in Dubai, then something somewhere else, etc. I’ve been gone 4 years and 2 months at this point, and still think we have a couple or more good travelling years ahead of us. I’m not from Houston and I don’t want to go live there, so we have to come up with something else.

Hey, Nephew! If the company would pay for the trip, come VISIT Houston! Love, A. Sally

Happy Anniversary to you and Guli! I am a big believer that all of this job craziness happens for a reason. You will come out on the other side with something better. The process is usually painful, but alot of things that are worth it are not always easy! I saw a special on flights from Atlanta to Dubai for early May and thought about coming to see y’all. With other obligations we have, we cannot do it right now. I want to come over there before y’all move away so keep us well informed of any planned moves!

Yeah, it’s a short term pain but everything will be ok. Looks like they are planning to have the Houston side operation up and running by 1 April or so, but we’ll be here some time after that “finishing up and doing transitional tasks” for some unspecified period longer. On the other hand, if anything comes up before then I am gone gone gone.

    Happy Anniversary!

As for the job situation… Look at it honestly, and ask yourself if you really expected anything different? If so, it’s time to bail and look for something else to do. If it’s just what you expected but with slightly different timing, then do what you gotta do and go with the flow.

That said, I grew up in San Diego and if you can get to the West Coast, the environment is worth the weather taxes and having to live among those weirdos, so if you can find something over on the left coast then I’d strongly consider it.
